Triangle Inn Palm Springs

| Built in the late 1950s, the Triangle Inn Palm Springs stands as one of Palm Springs midcentury modern architectural treasures. Although many have assumed the building is a Cody design, it was actually designed by Palm Springs architect Hugh M. Kaptur, of Hugh M. Kaptur A.I.A. and Associates. One of his first commercial designs, Kaptur has since designed more than 100 Palm Springs buildings, including the William Holden home. When built, the Triangle Inn Palm Springs (called The Impala Lodge by owner Fern Lawrence) stood in stark contrast to the little square box structures of the pervious era. "I was trying to do something unique and modern but also something that fit comfortably into its desert setting." Kaptur recalled. "And I wanted to add a bit of whimsy." He added brightly colored totems and unique wood and metal architectural details throughout. The Triangle Inn Palm Springs is a clothing-optional resort catering to a gay male clientele. Hosts Michael Green and Stephen Boyd provide nine elegantly appointed suites within the grounds, plus an adjacent four-bedroom house (roomy enough for up to eight guests). Accommodations feature the comforts of home: fully equipped kitchens/kitchenettes, large baths with top-quality linens, plentiful closet space, reading libraries, TVs, VCRs and stereos. Breakfast is served poolside each morning. |
